Completion of Module 4

My book is now complete.

I used recycled paper shopping bags for this book and left the handles attached to my pages.  The work of Lois Walpole inspired me to weave these handles together.  I have used torn strips from Duttons for Buttons paper bags, which were the perfect yellow to co-ordinate with the central embroidered panel, and this book can now be carried!

I had seven bag handles to weave together.  I started with weaving each one individually then grouped it to 3 + 1 + 3 which resulted in this ‘grooved’ weave detail.

Shopping bag from YaYa boutique (thick brown paper), crumpled.  Then I wrote ‘designers designers’ in blue and yellow wax crayons, over plastic canvas grid.  I ironed the paper flat, which melted the wax crayon and dulled it.

When folded carefully, it forms this shape:

Hold the pointed ‘spine’, open it out slightly and you can see the initials M W (Mawdsley Williams – my married name and my maiden name).
